When visiting Spain the best way to see the country as a local is to avoid the resorts and rent a nice villa in a mountain village, or some small village by the sea; and if you know how to speak and understand Spanish, you really can get more from your holiday to Spain.
But a place to really fall in love with in Spain has to be Frigiliana, and it’s steeped history. Frigiliana is a beautiful village in the province Málaga, Southern Spain; perfectly lined with a high mountain ridge, just 7k from the North of Nerja. Frigiliana is also a great place to experience some truly breath-taking panoramic sea views to the south towards Nerja, as well as sweeping views of the mountains that surround the village.
Frigiliana is not a well-known tourist spot, so it’s not yet been swamped by tourists; there are tacky souvenir shops or expensive bars. Because of this, the village has maintained its charm and character with its small shaded plazas and quaint wine bars; as well as small ceramic and pottery shops.
The village has an entwinement of narrow cobbled streets that blend together nicely with the whitewashed houses that line them; the houses have a classic Andalusian design with stone balconies, with and iron railings filled with balcony planters containing a variant of local flowers.
All in all, Frigiliana is an ideal place to rent a Holiday Villa, and escape to away from the real world for a short spell.
