Much is made of capital cities. “They’re the greatest,” people will tell you. “They are the capital because they have the best and most stuff in them!” Typically speaking capital cities were chosen because of their economic potential. London, for example, sits on the river Thames; a hub from which the waters of the world could be accessed. This was crucial given that London was the heart of the British empire. But what about now?
London still remains England’s best, most culturally diverse and most exciting city. There is never a dull moment; there’s always something on offer and someone to meet. It is a special city, something that many of England’s others simply don’t have. While we might have several big cities around; Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, all of them feel regional. They do not feel as all encompassing as London; the beating metropolitan heart of this amazing country.
